Easter Poem

That night he betrayed You
And all Your friends fled,
You forgave them for running
And counting You dead.

In that mockery of a trial,
When they spat out such lies,
You were silent, they were noisy,
They were foolish, You were wise.

And when charged for the truth
You were not afraid to say
"Yes, I am Christ, the Son of God" -
Even then You showed the way.

And Peter, he failed You
Because he was so afraid;
He repented and he wept,
And I know that You forgave.

As for Judas, too late
He realized His mistake.
But really, all along he'd been
A liar and a fake.

All along he had made choices
And hardened his own heart
Till he took the final action
To keep God and him apart.

And Pilate, though he knew
You were a just and honest man,
He gave you over to be killed;
But it was all part of God's plan.

They beat You and mocked You,
Made You walk up Calvary's hill.
And even as they taunted You,
I know You loved them still -

The ones who would turn to You,
Realize You weren't a fraud,
Lift their hands to heaven and say
"Truly this was the Son of God!"

The noblest King in all creation
Was then placed inside a tomb -
The place He has been destined for
Even from the womb.

The Jews then spoke to Pilate,
Asking for a guard;
But foiling the plan of God Himself
Is really very hard.

That Sabbath was the darkest day
That this Earth had ever seen;
Their Hope and Savior killed -
Creation did moan and keen.

Sunday dawned bright and cold;
The Marys came to mourn.
But death had been defeated
And the temple's veil was torn!

How could Jesus be in His grave?
How could that linen hold Him?
Three days had passed and He had risen
Just as He had told them!

An angel rolled the stone away
And the guards fainted in fear.
The angel told the girls to look -
"He's risen, He's not here!"

They ran to tell His disciples
"He's risen from the dead!"
But on the way they met their Lord;
They worshiped and bowed their heads.

"Rejoice!" Be glad!
We have the victory!
The curse of sin was lifted
By a man nailed to a tree.

Jesus, I just want to say
You were really, truly brave.
I love You and I thank You
For all that You gave

To us, Your bride,
The apple of Your eye.
You give us every good thing,
For us You'd even die.

And You did, You did that
So we could have eternal life,
To spend with You, bask in Your love
And be Your precious wife.
